Que les frontières s'ouvrent. Que la Paix soit sur la terre et les hommes de toutes les nations dans des échanges fraternels qui nous fassent oublier les moments noirs de notre histoire. Meilleurs vœux pour cette année 2013 et amitiés sincères.
Interestingly, the sign to the right reads: "DEMARKATIONSLINIE" (Demarcation line); so it was considered per se as a temporary divide, at least by the NAZI regime!
A very correct note. Besides, not far from this area there was the so called 'Triangle of Suwalki', firstly disputed among the Third Reich, the USSR and Lithuania too. Die besten Wünsche und herzlichen Grüßen!
Thank you, Pille, auch von mir alles Gute. My late father-in-law grew up not far from here, in Prostki (Prostken), district of Lyck. Prostki was a border town to Russia (with a major freight railstation) after WW I to Poland til 1939 and after the Blitzkrieg against Poland the Soviets moved into that area. So my father-in-law was two times eyewitness of the beginning of a major campaign of WWII 1939 and 1941.
Thank you very much for the interesting link. The views are very impressive. I tried to look for some statistical reports through wikipedia and - surprise - I have found that only in the Italian version there is the complete list of toponyms before and after 1945 http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostki Click here to see the former border of Prostken (previous Gasthaus "Karl Krüger") Best wishes!
Here is another link from the German version of Wikipedia with a complete list of toponyms of the locations in the East Prussian region of Varmia-Masuria: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Namen_ehemals_ostpreu%C3%9Fischer_Orte_in_Polen
Merci Pille. Que l'année 2013 t'apporte tout ce que tu désires; en premier lieu la santé pour toi et pour les tiens. "Que les frontières s'ouvrent. (...)"*
