  1. Wisztyniec - Vištytis - Wystite, 566 inhabitants. They gained city rights in 1570, but lost them in 1776.

  2. It is a village that paid for the "Partition of Poland" at the end of XVIII century. However in 1999 the President of Lithuania granted to Vištytis the City Coat of Arms again.
    A deeper tragedy crossed Vištytis during the Holocaust. The village had a population of 1000 and almost 400 of them were Jews. They were not deported. They all were murdered there. Not by the Nazis, but by Catholic collaborators speaking Lithuanian language...
