This is an absurd border, born at the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. The Italian minority and all the local population did find a new barbed line to divide first time the Istrian peninsula. In the past centuries, this land had been completely Venetian until 1797, Austrian until 1918, Italian until 1945 and Yugoslavian until 1991. On this photo you can see the Slovenian and Croatian checkpoints far and invisible each from the other. In the current year 2013, thanks God this border will disappear, with the entry of Croatia inside the European Union since July 1st.
Campi coltivati in Slovenia e boschi in Croazia... :-)
ReplyDeleteControlli a queste frontiere cadranno quest anno.
This looks like a lovely part of the country. Diane
