It's very interesting. This border existed until 1975, actually, the year of the Portuguese decolonization, but Indonesia invaded Timor-Leste and the half-part of the island were occupied until 1999, after the death of dictator Suharto. Only with the negociations of the UN and and Portuguese diplomacy was possible to make real the independence of this country with this first president Xanana Gusmão. Portuguese language is still spoken there.
